"A glottally thickening wodge of chocolate chip and cocoa..." is how Nigella Lawson describes her chocolate gingerbread. It's an old-fashioned English gingerbread, moist and damp, cut into slabs as opposed to dainty chunks, and weighted with a hefty amount of cocoa.
It's also full of tiny chocolate nubs; to get these we recommend hacking up a good bar of chocolate instead of using more evenly proportioned chocolate chips.
It's topped off with a gooey icing of cocoa and ginger ale, which sounds odd but is heavenly.
For a late winter dose of heat and chocolate indulgence you really don't have to look any further than Chocolate Gingerbread. You can find the recipe at Nigella's website.

Her ginger preserve bread & butter pudding is also amazing...

I made her buttermilk b-day cake for my mom's b-day last week. It didn't rise but it was tasty with homemade brown sugar frosting. Reminder to self: Buy new can of baking powder in time for son's b-day this saturday! The frosting was heavenly.

Nigella's old-fashioned chocolate cake is absolutely the best. I was a little iffy on the chocolate gingerbread thing... I'll have to try it.

I just tried this recipe and it's fabulous, very moist and dense, and the chocolate gingerale frosting feels like it's fizzling on your tongue.
I'd recommend cutting the pan into 24 squares instead of the 12 the recipe suggests though. Not only is the gingerbread so rich and dense that it makes polishing off a 1/12 slab challenging, but it weighs in at about 600 calories per slab at that portion size.
