Cocktail Recommendation: Plum Caipirinha

2008_07_16-PlumCaipirinha.jpgWith stone fruits in season and temperatures rising, we've been looking for ways to cool down. When we came across a recipe for Plum Caipirinha, we knew we had a winner.

The recipe, taken from the Food Network (get it here), is very easy to make. It calls for fresh plums, two types of sugar, limes, and cachaça. Personally, we thought the amount of cachaça that the recipe called for was too much - it made the drink too strong and overpowered the taste of plums and limes. We recommend using half the amount of alcohol that the recipe calls for.

Looks good, but I'm more curious about that straw. It looks metallic — can that be right?

Elizabeth, I was just thinking the same thing! I have a friend who adores bendy straws and that might make a good gift for him.

Yup, it's a metal straw! Much classier than a plastic one, plus reuseable/less wasteful. I'll do a post on those next. :)

Cachaça is a typical alcooholic beverage from my country (Brazil) and it´s made with sugar cane distilled. It´s very strong to drink it pure, at least for my taste, but a lot of people do that. Caipirinha is very popular here, specially made with pieces of lemon, mashed a little bit, cachaça and sugar. It´s very good :) I have never tasted with plums, but already tasted with raspberry, or passionfruit (delicious) or kiwi.
