Last August we gave you a sneak peek of New York Times food writer Melissa Clark's kitchen. We showed you a few photos of her original kitchen, due for imminent renovation, to be completed (hopefully) before the birth of her daughter.
Well, her beautiful kitchen is now finished, and just in the nick of time. Read on for a photo of her new kitchen!
The New York Times recently ran a piece with a look at Clark's brand new kitchen -- renovated on a budget with IKEA cabinets, Home Depot pulls, and a few choice splurges.
Here's another look at her old kitchen:

To Clark's chagrin, the last pieces were still being put in place while she was leaving for the hospital to have her baby -- three weeks early. To read the whole story and see more photos of her lovely kitchen renovation, go to the Times.

ha!
Well, my baby came 3 weeks early too, and I can't even guesstimate how late the reno was...
I went into labour (my first day off work) while my husband was on his way back from the Vermont Soapstone Company with our kitchen countertop. (Actually, my water broke during the season premiere of E.R., appropriately enough.) We drove very carefully to the hospital, wary of damaging our car and our counter...
The first few weeks after the baby was born were hell -- I remember having to wash dishes in the bathroom sink, and try to work on temporary plywood counters. It took a while for the "contractor" (ahem, the husband) to install them.
Jeez, I miss my amazing kitchen. After all of that hard work, some lucky tenant is enjoying it while I cook in a kitchen with a lousy cooktop, an easy-bake sized oven, and 18" of counter space.

Call me crazy. I like Melissa's kitchen, pre-reno. Much warmer.

I love the new one. Much easier on the eye and so much more storage space with those stacked cupboards.

cat? cooking surface? Um, no!!

You try convincing a cat that they do not belong on the counter. It's a full time job, and you get paid in scratches.

I like them both! For totally different reasons. I'd probably lean towards the old one actually... eep!

Both very nice. But I like the style of the old one more I think. The new one looks better organized (like with the double up of the upper cabinets).

Hmmmm.... was that top photo on purpose? Barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen? : )

not a fan of the "after"...looks like every other "after" shot when the "before" was perfectly adequate.

Great renovation. Pay no heed to the snipey haters who would say otherwise.

I think the reno is gorgeous but have one problem- the flow! It seems like you have to walk from the sink around the island to get to the fridge. And the stove it so far down the counter. That would drive me insane.
Other than that, I love everything. The light cabinets, glass tile, dark wood floors, farmhouse sink. Lovely.
