sorry, this doesn't look good at all. it looks like kim bap gone awry :-(

and why do all the comments come from Aisan- (maybe even Korean-sounding) commentors (i.e., mukbo = korean word for one who always eats; mikyung, junghee, hyunhee and kim are all Korean names) WHO HAVE ONLY COMMENTED ONCE accordingly to their profiles?

not to be a debbie downer, but this seems very odd.

Also, why are all these comments made by new members whose profiles were created today or yesterday? With no other comments?

I once went to a Japanese Restaurant that served this kind of food, but it was too expensive. Now I have the source that will help me not only save money, but will help spend less of my time going out and actually waiting and paying for the food. Thank you very much for the recipe and I will try it out.

Thank you!

@Carson's Mom,

Why does it sound like that you're hating on Korean people? I am not sure of what you are trying to say, but it just doesn't sound good.

If you aren't going to say something nice, don't apologize for it. So what if all the commentors are from Asia? And what if the commentors only have one comment? Maybe they're just her friends that gave her help. I would have done the exact same thing.

Whenever I hear harsh, unneeded criticism, its sounds extremely immature.

Normally, I wouldn't spend my time writing a lengthy reply, but I think that this lady, who wrote the post, deserves much more respect than some on this page are giving her.

Good luck, Eun! It looks delicious(not at all like a weird kimbap)!

@butterandjam

I don't think that speaking Korean makes me hating on fellow Koreans. I just noticed that this post is the only one with so many comments, then noticed that almost all the names are Korean-dervied, then noticed that they are all new profiles with no other comments. It seemed odd to me so I pointed it out. I think the contest should be fair to everyone.

I wonder what Carson's mom considers fair? Yes, I am a new member and I can only thank Eun for introducing me to this website. And, yes, I will be traversing through it and making other comments and posts... At my leisure.

This looks and sounds unappetizing. I can't believe it has more votes than anything else. It's too bad that contests like this are based on how many people you know and can convince to create a profile to vote. I doubt The Kitchn's regular readers would choose this to win.

@rinalee

Well, I'm sure that you wouldn't know because it doesn't seem like you are a regular reader of The Kitchn.
I'm not trying to harsh, although I might come off that way. I just wish that people would stop criticizing about who comes and votes. It doesn't matter.

I really like the fusion feel of this recipe. it's a korean-sushiroll-meets-scotch-egg mashup recipe and for that reason i give it cred. I may even try making it this weekend.

and in regards to the race/newbie commentary that's hijacked this thread...YES i signed up on the site to vote specifically because this recipe struck me as interesting and unique. many of us get the Kitchn RSS feeds and look at this stuff without being signed up members. We drop in when we see something noteworthy. give Eun the benefit of the doubt eh?

that looks really good! i can't wait to try it at home!

i just created this profile because i wanted to vote for eun's recipe. i don't know why people are making such a huge deal that the voters are either korean or asian or that they just created their profile today to vote? obviously some people really have nothing better to do. i've actually been an avid reader of the kitchn but i never felt like i had to create a profile. and so what if eun's friends are coming to this website to vote? i would do the same thing, telling my friends to vote for me...

anyways...good luck eun!

to flyawaynow - Actually, I've been a regular reader for a couple years now and just haven't felt compelled to sign up to comment before. I can admit I became interested in this contest because someone I knew submitted a recipe (though it wasn't even in the omnivore category) and wanted to say something about this dish in particular because I was so surprised to see that it had the most votes. I'm not pointing the finger at the people who are helping a friend out by voting, I'm just disappointed in how the contest winners are chosen - that it can be hijacked by whoever has better social media networking skills.

I don't usually like meatloaf but when I saw this unique idea I decided to try it. It was so easy and delicious I made it for my mom. She usually won't attempt anything I cook. Thank you Eun for changing that! :) You deserve all the votes you've received.
