That was a long weekend of barbeque. What are you on to this week?
Note: we are so tired of our Open Thread image! Is there anyone out there who can send us a photo of something (has to be cooking-related, of course, and somehow related to a thread or a circle - we've already done pasta!) to serve as our new Open Thread image? Send it to kitchen (at) apartmenttherapy (dot) com.

A weekend with my grandma in New Orlenas meant absolutely no barbeque but tons of delicious cajun cooking (jambalaya, fish cakes, spicy boiled shrimp and cajun potatoes, catfish with "randolf" sauce). I even got brave and had the tiniest taste of homemade turtle soup with sherry. I'm full in the way that only grandmas can make you full, though now of course I'm craving barbeque and watermelon!
Any ideas for a french-themed cocktail party? (Bastille day is coming up!) I'd love to do more than just buy brie...What else is appropriate?
m
heres a link to my favorite EVER bastille day party
http://www.whitedog.com/bastille.html
its at a place called the white dog cafe in philly and they do a wonderful buffet, and then they make all their servers dress up like poodles and then they "storm" the bastille and rescue the prisoners and then everyone does the can can
it's absolutely THE most fun block party ever, but, their food is also FAB! take a look at their menu there might be some delicious things to crib
or, conversely, check out the fabulous Clotildes blog chocolate & zucchini for what a modern french woman cooks

Kate, you must tell us: how *was* the turtle soup?
I made a corn-tomato-basil salad from epicurious that was as simple as sugar and pretty, pretty, pretty.
I made farmer market zuchinni stuffed with quinoa, tomatoes, mushrooms and ricotta. I thought it was too blahhh.
Corn tomato basil sounds delish. After four days in the south my body started craving vegetables like crazy (and, no, fried okra didn't count).
The turtle soup was good but scary. If I hadn't known what was in it I would have merrily eaten an entire pot but as an almost-vegetarian I kept picturing a turtle and getting freaked out. Once again, ignorance is bliss.
