This weekend's Open Thread got very busy, with reports of what folks planned on cooking, and reports of what they'd already made.
What's missing is the evidence. Does anyone have a picture of what they cooked over the weekend?
GM:
A vegetarian dinner for 11! Red pepper-pomegranate-walnut dip, beet-orange-feta salad, apple-cauliflower soup, butternut squash galettes, some quinoa dish, and birthday cake.
jenblossom:
Last weekend was a big cooking weekend for me, so this weekend will be more laid-back - just some duck confit my fiance made, warmed through in the cast iron skillet, potatoes roasted in the duck fat with a little sea salt, and a simple salad for dinner tonight. I'll probably do Cioppino on Sunday.
Ram:
I'm gonna have steamed clams...steamed with sake that is, and some sake for drinking to go with it!

I've got no new pictures to show, but I wanted to invite everyone to participate in my holiday recipe swap! It's week 4... Every week til xmas I'm posting a recipe and inviting others to post one of their favorites in the comments. Check out the recipes from the first 3 weeks here:

ah, the best laid plans and all that....
the boy and i had planned to make roasted squash and cauliflower, but inspriation struck on saturday morning
wouldn't some yummy sausage taste great roasted with the squash??
we were both feeling the need for some exercise, so saturday afternoon we set out from the LES on a walk to the UES and the carnivore's heaven known as Lobel's
the butcher suggested their hot italian sausge
we could see no reason to say no to that suggestion!
but, then, when we got home, the knowledge of sausage in the fridge was all consumingly overwhelming, we had to cook it NOW (the plan was to cook sunday night)
so what was supposed to be roasted squash turned into GLORIOUS fennel, wild mushoroom and spicy italian sausage risotto
it was so warm and cozy and soul satisfyingly good, and went great with a bottle of 2003 french wine from best cellars, named of all things "Hi!"
sigh, i wish it was still the weekend!
NOW you ask. I ate the evidence.
I have a pic of the Orange Blossom Chocolate Loaf Cake I made here: http://erinskitchen.blogspot.com/2005/12/orange-blossom-chocolate-loaf-cake.html
Ask and you shall receive:

I wish I had taken pictures! But it got so hectic squeezing 11 people around my table--I live in Brooklyn, and as big as the kitchen is by NY standards, it was still elbow-to-elbow seating. I'll try to take a picture of the one leftover galette tonight. It was the most raved-about dish, from Deborah Madison's "Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone."
I made the Dutch Baby on Sunday morning - wow, it was awesome! Can't wait to make it for my mom when I go home at Christmas.
yay kathryn!
what did you serve it with??
Berries would have been nice, but it was too cold (19F) to run to the store, so we just did powdered sugar and a squeeze of lemon juice. It was perfect! Sort of like a crepes suzette, which wasn't what I was expecting!
I threw a large, fairly low key dinner party this weekend. http://goodiesfirst.typepad.com/goodies_first/2005/12/super_casual_ho.html Unfortunately, I only managed to take about five photos.
Here's the menu:
Spicy Pumpkin Soup with Mexican Cream and Toasted Pepitas
Moroccan Arugula Salad with Beets and Ricotta Salata
Duck Breasts with Orange Honey and Tea Sauce
Carmelized Spiced Carrots
Jeweled Rice with Dried Fruit
Sticky Toffee Pudding
Mulled Apple Cider
I stumbled upon this site as I was in the process of doing some online research. I feel rather ashamed to admit that I have not cooked any huge feasts in while. And, yes, I admit, I've had takeout!
