As my own best friend, Joxer, ages I often find myself wondering at how hard it will be when he's gone. After 6 hours of coaxing, I was able to gain my dog's trust and bring him home off the street. We've been together now the better part of a decade. Lets all be reminded of how short a time we spend with these most special of friends, and lets all resolve to give those friends the very best of ourselves we can. Because they do no less for us everyday.

I wanted to add this:

Loving and caring for a pet is a choice that is similar in my mind to adopting a child. You choose to take on the responsibility of parenthood. They are dependent on us. In return, you receive unconditional love. Sara Kate: Your dog love will return to you a million fold. Oliva "Brown Boy" is right now telling all the other doggie angels how wonderful you were to her and how much she loved YOU. I hope you recover soon and we will all have good thoughts of that georgeous spirit behind her eyes and yours. Be well.

I'm so sorry. It's heartbreaking to lose a pet. I have my own sad little list but also two cats now living with me that are wonderful. Giving homes to animals who would otherwise face an early death is so satisfying. But you always keep a spot for the ones that went before. I'm thinking of you.

I'm so sorry...
I am still grieving for my dog who passed away when I was 15... He was born 2 weeks after me. Is it any wonder that DOG is GOD spelled backwards?
