My nose noticed the concord grapes before my eyes even saw them. Those beautiful little purple and green orbs lured me in while memories of grape mustaches filled my head. Grown by Locust Grove Farm (Malboro, NY) where Jim Kent Jr., one of the original farmers thirty years ago when Greenmarket first began, grows grapes on a four-and-a-half-acre slope of land on the Hudson River with the help of his sister Barbara and other family.
While I was visiting, a customer bought two quarts. Was he making jelly, juice, or even better, wine? Sort of. He planned to juice the grapes with blueberries and blackberries and then add ground walnuts and sesame seeds for his version of a power bar. A self-described raw food eater (I think I found one of the five that exist) he buys grapes every week while theyre in season.
This is peak season for these table grapes so get them while you can. They will be around about another three weeks.

Thanks for heads up on Concord grapes. I lost out last year by waiting too long.
What I make is a Concord Grape Pie, which is out of this world and a great Thanksgiving pie, using the pulp and skins prepared with sugar and a little flour and baked in a pie crust .
