Whole Foods will open their long-antcipated store on the Lower East Side of Manhattan on March 29, according to the cover story on yesterday's New York Sun. This will be Whole Food's fourth Manhattan location.
This new store will be Whole Foods largest store in the city. It will include "a culinary center where chefs will hold cooking classes, the franchise's first-ever fromagerie dedicated to rare cheeses, and a caf accommodating 300 patrons," according to The Sun.
The Sun says most neighborhood residents are in favor of the store, but some local retailers are concerned. The owner of wine shop Elizabeth & Vine says Whole Foods would cut into his business if they start selling wine and calls the store "Wal-Mart without the preservatives."

the very day i move out of the east village --- it FINALLY opens. :(
Here's a webcast (link through my name) of Micheal Pollan (Omnivore's Dilemma) talking to John Mackey (CEO WFM) at UC Berkeley.
Pretty interesting.....
