We're Looking for a Few Good Writers: Deadline 6.26.06

2006_06_13 spy.gifDear Readers,

As many of you know, this summer is a busy one for me. I'll be writing my book (due September 1st) and growing my baby (due September 19th). This makes blogging a tad challenging. And then there's after September... we need to bring on some help around here at The Kitchen.

We're looking for a few good writers.

Read on...

We would very much like to find a blogger or two from within our ranks, so although we are looking for likely candidates in other places, we are putting out the word here with the hopes that one of you will fit this shoe. If you are interested, read on below.

We are looking for smart writers with a great sense of the importance of food, and in particular, cooking, in modern urban life. Although thus far the site has focused primarily on NYC, you don't have to be a New Yorker. We'd like to bring some other cities' flavor to the pot. That means Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, etc. are all invited. We'd even consider throwing in a bit of the international.

You should have some experience, although not necessarily professional, with cooking, eating, and general consuming of goods related to the kitchen. Perhaps your soufflés still don't rise perfectly, but you have an awesome collection of vintage bake ware and can write to high heaven about cookware and kitchen supply shops. And it's very important that you write well. Although I am an editor, I am seeking writers to assist with the site whose writing actually helps alleviate the workload, not create more.

We think of all of our sites like radio shows: they are about collecting great resources, hosting the local community and bringing people together. It is not all about you, you, you. And, yes, we do pay our writers.

You need:
- a good computer
- a reliable high speed connection
- a digital camera
- a good knowledge of how to use all these things

Please submit to sarakate (at) apartmenttherapy (dot) com with "SUBMISSIONS" in big letters in the subject header, by Monday, June 26th:
- Your name
- Where you live
- How did you find AT?
- How familiar are you with blogging?
- Five ideas for posts - either running weekly features, or one-time articles
- Three sample posts: one store review, one product and either one ORIGINAL recipe or one cooking tip/how-to. Keep posts 100-200 words maximum, and include an image.

Thanks, and good luck!

Wow. I'm flattered that people think I should do this. I guess I ought to apply. Thanks.

the crowd roars.

*roar*

how about a column of kitchen MIS-adventures? the anti-Grant column? ;) photos of messy mise-en-place? video clips of someone realizing mid-recipe that they don't have a certain ingredient?

My vote is for those guest bloggers Ann had on her blog while she was in Croatia. They were awfully cute.

And JenPDX, I concur, with gusto. That was me, last weekend, baking for a party after an extensive grocery shopping trip and realizing, with an hour left to go, that I had no SUGAR. I'd like to know I'm not alone.

HA! thanks for the shout out faith! too bad i ate my little guest bloggers ;-) (for those that think this sounds weird, my guest bloggers were bunny shaped pastas, and yes, i realise that sounds weird too, but trust me, it does, somehow make sense!)

I would love it if one of the people focused on vegetarian (or at least pescetarian) dishes, but I may be vastly in the minority. But just saying...

I vote for Grant as well - but I'd happily accept the position on his behalf! :-D

Fiona - You are not alone, and I agree! Especially a seasonally-focused vegetarian would be wonderful.
