Target Rips Off FRED & Friends?

2008_05_05-FRED.jpgThis makes us sad. We really like FRED & Friends' products; they are fun and whimsical yet practical. We loved meeting up with their team at the Housewares Show. Now today we saw on their blog that Target and their new Cynthia Rowley summer Whim line like FRED stuff too.

Only problem is, they've copied and not given credit.

The Ice Kabobs from FRED (above, on left) look strangely, strangely similar to a new product from this Whim line (above, on right).

Check out the FRED blog post here. We can't find the rip-off kabobs at Target anymore; perhaps they've been pulled?

they aren't afraid to rip off anyone.

not even... most recently:

and if you search that blog along those lines you will find eames aluminum group designs that are almost exact rip offs.

Target is notorious for ripping off designs. They have no shame and give no credit (or payment) where credit is due.

That's funny. I own an icecube tray that is identical to the FRED tray - only I bought it two summers ago at Loblaws (Canadian grocery store) for $2.

I don't think I really understand how one uses those kabob things. Somebody want to illuminate me?

Curtis, I think the idea is that you make your own popsicles. Kind of a new twist on the old Tupperware juice pop thingies.

I think these are also meant to be icy swizzle sticks for tall drinks. You freeze water or juice then stick the frozen sticks in glasses of lemonade or what have you.

They haven't been pulled from stores here at least. I saw them this weekend.

Yah that's pretty nasty. At least change the sequence if you're going to copy it! Eek.

I went to Target yesterday (in Tucson, AZ) and they still had these for sale.
