Sale Alert! Linens 'n Things is Going Out of Business

2008_10_22-lnt.jpgDid you know that Linens 'n Things is closing its stores? We saw this post over at AT:NY, and we can't say we're surprised. Bed, Bath, & Beyond does seem much more ubiquitous, well-stocked, and well-priced. But LNT's demise is our gain; everything is on sale. Don't get too excited yet, though...

So far, the savings are pretty small. We're seeing around 10 percent off most kitchen items. That means a Cuisinart Stand Mixer is $269.99 instead of $299.99 and a Henckels chef's knife is $107.99 instead of $119.99—not exactly bargain basement prices.

But, we feel like the idea of a liquidation is that, eventually, this stuff's gotta move. So it might be a good site to keep an eye on.

Anyone seeing deeper discounts at the brick-and-mortar stores? Any idea why the store is closing in the first place?

They had 30% off everything at my store and already most of the cookware, bakeware etc was gone so its not as promising as you might suspect.

They closed one local store earlier, and the sale got huger as the official close date neared. By the time I got there, they were down to just a few dozen things and were even selling shelving. Now, a store that's only been opened a year is about to close, so I'll be keeping an eye on their signage. They're taking gift cards, of course, but no other forms of store credit, so if you have any, use it up!

i will have to tell my mum about this.

its funny bc going out of business sales sometimes take FOREVER for them to really reduce that price to intice me to buy. Last year, the compusa was going out of business in my town and it took them like 3-4 months to finally close the doors. BUT when I went back home in the summer they were reopening!
