In the spirit of growth, new voices, and broader national coverage, this week we are introducing four wonderful new writers who will help nourish The Kitchn on a daily basis. We've introduced you to Emma and Nina, and today it's our pleasure to introduce Kathryn Hill.
Kathryn Hill is a graphic designer, photographer, foodie, and blogger. Her photography work has appeared in the Los Angeles Times, American Marketplace, Slow Food, and Food & Wine. She writes a deaf technology blog at Stone Deaf Pilots, blogs elsewhere at Cocktailians, and has guest blogged on Wired.
Born in Miami and raised in Atlanta, Kathryn currently resides in San Francisco. She taught herself to cook when she was 12, armed with a stack of Gourmet magazines, a 1969 edition of "Better Homes and Gardens Cook Book," and the entire Time-Life "Foods of the World" series. In another life, she worked as the general manager of a fast-food restaurant and a line cook in an Italian restaurant. She lived in Tuscany for a year, and spent that fall picking olives, grapes, and porcini mushrooms, and digging for white truffles.
Her other interests include bicycling, traveling, having a cocktail in the middle of a dust storm with good friends at Burning Man, and spending way too much time on the Internet.
