I've Got Color! Color In the Kitchen

2006_10_06-Color.jpgThe Fall Colors Contest is in full swing at Apartment Therapy, and we here in the Kitchen are certainly not going to be left out.

This is a brilliant time of year for food: orange pumpkins, russet apples and mountains of green and yellow squash are at the markets. Cool weather turns us towards golden roast chickens with white, creamy mashed potatoes, and the prospect of even colder weather to come sends me running for the warm espresso-brown of chocolate cupcakes.

We'll be posting recipes and inspiration to help bring more of this color into the kitchen. If you see something particularly bright and beautiful, send us a photo! What colorful things are you cooking this month?

Aloha Ya'll,

The wonderful colors of Fall. Speaking of pumpkins, we had a recent article about the Kabocha squash or pumpkins very popular here in Hawaii. They are often used more as Halloween pumpkins over the traditional bright orange pumpkins. When ripe, their colors are much more subtle, yet impart a added creepiness to the Halloween faces they sport.

Although our temperature variations between Summer and Winter are smaller than the mainland, we too look forward to Fall and the Wintertime. Some changes are subtle, but we enjoy them. I'll be looking foward to the Kabocha squash and other foods of Fall!
