apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Introducing... Vanessa Barrington

kitchen-editor-vanessa.jpgVanessa Barrington is our new editor in San Francisco. She's always up for a picnic, eventhough it’s usually too cold to picnic in her hometown. She’s a freelance writer specializing in food and travel and a professional recipe developer. She also teaches cooking classes, and does marketing writing for a variety of food and lifestyle clients.

Vanessa is a self-taught chef, with a background as a caterer and restaurant professional. She’s thrilled to join the Apartment Therapy team and as San Francisco editor, she plans to delve into every corner of the Bay Area to bring Kitchen readers plenty of delicious tidbits to savor.

Welcome, Vanessa!

Yeah Vanessa! Recently when in San Francisco (where I used to live and still have old friends) Vanessa and her partner took me to a FABULOUS "hole in the wall" Vietnamese Restaurant. One I would not have gone into on my own. She of course knew the chef and they ordered up a fabulous meal! She is very knowledgable about where to find the yummiest food, as well as lots of interesting tidbits about food histroy and she is a lovely woman to boot! Looking forward to her contributions!

Congratulations Vanessa! I'm a bi-coastal girl by heart and am really looking forward to reports from SF and LA.

If your travels take you to Berkeley you must stop by my friend's wine store, Vintage Berkeley.

The Vietnamese restaurant: Not Tu Lan and actually, not really a Hole in the Wall especially now since it was just reviewed in the Chronicle last week. It was Pagalac on Larkin. I missed the review and tried to go Saturday. A madhouse! Great food though.

thanks for the warm welcome!

It is so encouraging to see other self- taught chefs doing something that they love! I am a self-taught "chef" (can I give myself that title?) close to graduating with a degree in Restaurant and Hospitality marketing. I am still trying to figure out what I want to do..... I love reading about people like me who teach cooking (always a great possibility), writing about food (my hobby) and generally being creative with their talents (daily occupation). I look forward to reading more as I determine my path.
