February Sneak Peek: Do it Now! Small Projects Month

2009_01_29-Feb.jpgJanuary is almost over...already! And now, here is a sneak peek at our big news for February:

Do it Now! Small Projects Month

We are inviting you to tackle one small household project, one you've been meaning to get to for a long time. You can enter your creative solutions and projects for a chance to win a prize and, more importantly, to educate and inspire all of us. The Kitchn will be inviting entries this year, along with all the other sites in our network.

So get thinking on your household (and kitchen!) projects: what have you been putting off? Isn't it time you got it done? And look for an official event announcement in just a few days, including the scoop on a very exciting partner!

Oh, and PS! We know that we mentioned we'd be focusing on soups in February. No worries, soup-lovers: soups are still on the table. Look for plenty of soups, stews, and simmering in February, along with your best DIY and get-it-done-now! projects. It will be a full month - see you then!

Considering we just moved into this house, my life is one big project. I did just create a walk-in closet for my husband. I'm not opposed to putting the kitchen off until next month, though. It'll give me time to plan.

This is perfectly timed, as I was just laid off, so I'll have a lot of free time in February...

...I moved into this apartment two years ago. I unpacked most of my things, but there are still three small spots where Piles settled. Piles of...stuff. There's a Pile in my office space -- various I-know-I-should-keep-some-of-this-but-I-have-to-go-through-it papers on one shelf of my bookcase, a Pile in the bedroom closet of some-of-this-craft-stuff-could-be-used-but-I-don't-know-how-much, and a Pile in the hall closet of some-of-this-may-be-useful-but-I-don't-know-how-much.

By the end of February, I want each of those piles to have been sorted through, culled, sorted, and properly stored.

Dammit.

My whole apartment needs a redo, but if I had to pick one thing to focus on, it would be the kitchen and dining area. I basically need to take everything out of the cupboards, clean, organize, put all food stuffs in glass containers, organize, decorate, clean, clean clean some more! I guess the dining table could use a new table cloth, a curtain for the window, and maybe some seat cushions. It's doable in one month for sure.

My pantry-washroom. It's a dark hole that collects crap. No window, the only natural light comes in when I open the door to the garage, and the big garage door is also open. I'd like a source of light, and a screen door to the garage for ventilation, and a more useful arrangement of shelves. Right now all I have is an ugly but capacious L-shaped arrangement that came with the place. I'd also love, somehow, a deep sink.

Not such a small project, huh?
