My Great Outdoors: Jennifer's Edible Container Garden

2009greatoutdoorsbadge.gifName: Jennifer
Location: Long Beach, California
Type of space: Apartment balcony
Tell us about your outdoor project and how you enjoy it: Apartment dwelling often limits a person to creating a garden. This happens to be my case. I try to savor and use wisely what I DO have and at the moment this is my balcony. Cooking and gardening are two of my favorite things so what should every cook have? An edible garden of course! This is my outdoor project. Balcony edible container garden.

How did you create it? I wanted to create an outdoor room of sorts with a place to sit and eat a meal while also making room to grow the food i'd like to eat. I looked for artistic, functional garden pieces like my bright orange tomato cages to give some color pop. I also prefer to incorporate as many recycled pieces as possible. Why buy new when you can find the same if not better in an alley, thrift store or kick-down from a friend.

Recommended store, site, product or resource? www.target.com for my worm composter; http://www.hhnursery.com/current/ for my starts; Amvet thrift store, Long Beach for the rest.

Oh! Where did you get those candle holders? I have a pair just like it, but I broke the glass insert on one of them and need to buy replacement glass.

Is that the Bollo table from Ikea? If so, is that a Bollo bench? - I didn't know there was one. If not Bollo, what is it?? Yay for balcony gardening!!
