We've been drinking these margaritas for as long as we can remember, and I mean year-round.
Right about now as the days get longer and warmer, the rest of the world catches up and decides it's margarita time. With Cinco de Mayo celebrated today, what better time to share the recipe? Watch out, they're strong.
Margaritas To Make Men & Women Giggle
1 cup fresh squeezed lime juice (roll the limes first)
1 cup Triple Sec
2 cups silver tequila (not too picky: Sauza, Cuervo...)
4-6 cups ice
Add everything together and mix thoroughly with ice (throw in a few of the pressed limes for color). Let sit 5 minutes. Serve.
This will make enough for 8 people and more will be necessary.
(Thanks, Paul!)

Yes! And that's exactly how one should make a margarita. Screw store-bought "margarita mix". Fresh limes, fresh limes, fresh limes.
And this being Cinco de Mayo and all, I wanted to share my fave Tequila drink for the summer months: Palomas. I discovered this concoction at a Dia de los Muertos party I attended in Coyoacan last fall. They're a fizzy grapefruit cocktail with a hell of a kick. The lime/grapefruit soda combination takes all the edge off the tequila; So. you can slam back quite a few of these...
Paloma
1 1/2 shots of reposada Tequila (Sauza or El Jimador work well)
Juice of half a lime
1 12-oz can of Squirt*
Mix ingredients and serve in a salt-rimmed glass over ice. *(I've tried different grapefruit sodas, but Squirt taste the best. Using cans is easier than litre bottles.)
I know the recipe sounds a bit ghetto, but trust me on this one. They're always a hit when I serve them up. Happy Cinco, y'all.
Aw, crap, I don't drink. So all that I get is lime juice on ice. Or...Squirt, lime juice and ice. Oh boy.
Enrique, you're such a fresa!
Right on with the 1:1:2 proportions on the margarita.
A little better tequila *is* a little better, and gives you alot less hangover...
Centenario seems to be in everybody's homes in Mexico City, and I'm just starting to see it in stores in NY.
Smoooth.
Andree,
you might want to make limeade instead.
Squirt, lime juice and ice sounds like punishment.
guido: LOL. Did you just call me a "bourgie" spoiled brat? "Pinche Fresa" is more like it.
Andree: Yes, limeade for you, missy. Squirt (without tequila) is pretty rank stuff.
: )
dont forget the salt!! my fav part
As a huge Tequila fan, I am always up for a margarita. A good friend of mine gave me a recipe for what we like to call 'Camping Margaritas' that I will share with all of you. I know, I know, this is NOT an authentic recipe - this is the result of a bunch of desperate people sitting around a campground longing for a blender!
Camping Margaritas
1 can frozen limeade concentrate
pour concentrate into a jug, fill that can with tequila. Then add one beer (preferrably a pale beer, dark stout type beer won't do). Mix. Try not to giggle. And be careful -- it's potent.
guido: maybe the fresas drink it for street cred.
i might give that recipe a try with grapefruit fizzy lizzy instead.
I'd go for the components: straight tequila, Ting (a great grapefruit soda from Jamaica) and Cointreau (which is what we use to make margaritas at my place). Not necessarily at same sitting.
And since fresa means strawberry, Andree here's a recipe for 'strawberry daisy mocktail' that seems yummy (no alcohol, but no punishment either!):
