Merry Christmas!

12-25-christmas-card.jpgDear Readers,

Maxwell and I are sitting around the fire, sipping coffee our neighbor roasted. The early morning scones are in the oven. So, a brief moment to plug in and wish you all a Merry Christmas.

For us, a big part of Christmas is the cooking and eating. Later, we're having brunch with extended family: Mexican hot chocolate, scrambled local eggs, bratwurst, poached lady apples and trifle. Sitting down to eat, hands held in a brief blessing, is our worship.

This is Christmas. We're also talking about the origins of Christmas. This year, as a new family, it's become startlingly obvious to us how easy it is to lose sight of what this day is all about. The wrapping and buzzing credit card machines and last-minute pushing and shoving on the streets can be distracting.

Last night, we trimmed our little tree and re-grouped. A little prep was done in the kitchen, but nothing too stressful. What matters is that we're together, in a sacred space. We hope you are too.

Merry Christmas to you and yours! This may be one of my/our best yet. No extended family obligations (that was last night-fun!) so we've all (7 of us) had so far a combination fun, great, lazy, day, and now we'll soon be gearing up to all cook a nice dinner with roast chicken (dijon mustard, thyme, garlic under the skin), mushroom risotto and baby brussel sprouts. Enjoy your day...the wine will soon begin to flow in our place! All the best to everyone.....
