Yesterady, Enrique gave us his first list in a series of suggestions for Memorial Day Weekend music. Today he's back with a Summer Sun mix. Welcome back, Enrique...
"Familiarity is the common thread of this mix. Though your guests may not recognize all of the songs, these songs will have a familiar feel due to a liberal use of recognizable samples.
Jenn Cuneta’s “Come Rain Come Shine” incorporates Paul McCartney & Wings’ “Silly Love Songs”. Simply Red’s “Sunrise” samples Hall & Oates “I Can’t Go for That”. Mylo’s “Doctor Pressure” mashes up his own dance track “Drop the Pressure” with a forgotten Miami Sound Machine single. Rihanna’s “SOS” borrows heavily from Soft Cell’s “Tainted Love”. Dannii Minogue’s “Don’t Wanna Lose This Groove” is a mash-up of her own “Don’t Want to Lose This Feeling” with Madonna’s “Into the Groove”. On “True Love, Pt. 2”, punk band X references a dozen or more classic and oldies rock & roll tunes in just over 5 minutes."

It would be great if you could make these playlist available on the iTunes i mix website. Then that way we can all mooch off your great music selections.
Thanks Luke. I'd be happy to do that. Give me a couple of days to work on it? I'll post a link to an iTunes iMix (that will incorporate all of the playlists) on the comments thread forList #4 on Thursday.
Luke: Here's an abridged iTunes version of playlist #2. iTunes had an alternate remix of Simply Red's "Sunrise"; didn't have Modjo's "Lady" (subsituted in a delightfully cheesy instrumental lounge version); and had no versions of FPM's "Whistle Song" (which is a cover of a late '80s house classic by Frankie Knuckles). Enjoy! http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewIMix?id=156543943
Below is a link to an abridged version of all 4 playlists combined, plus a bonus playlist of mellower tracks for dusk/early evening. (Unfortunately, some of the cooler '70s R&B tracks and obscure '60s lounge tunes are not up on iTunes. Imagine that.) http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewIMix?id=156550019
enrique, you are the best! thanks for the fab music and for posting on itunes -- i can't wait to get home and download all the new cool party music. i'll def give you credit when everyone asks how i suddenly got great taste in music!
that Simply Red tune is sweet.
Re familiarity, check out:
Inside and Out - Feist
Great list Enrique, I thought I was the the only one who had even heard of "Sunrise"
Ok what IS that Inside and Out song? It's driving me crazy.
hey enrique-
great picks for your music selection thingy on AT:Kitchen! i have a lot of those songs, but all separately and would never have thought to put them together like you did- great mixes!
i love that you have TKO on this list, very nice.
Joey,
Feist (Canadian girl) recorded Inside and Out last year(see lyrics, click my name) which is a Bee Gees song called Love you Inside and Out, released in 1978.
I like her delivery on that song.
Cheers, hope it had'nt driven you completely crazy.
Hey all, thanks for the kind words and for indulging me in my pop music OCD! Christina: TKO is my 4 yr old nephew's favorite song. Well, that and Pharrell and Gwen's "Can I Have it Like That"--which I find to be simultaneously cute and frightening.
Leeds: You get bonus street cred points for the Feist recommendation! It's a shame Feist wasn't more widely embraced by American audiences. Her album is pretty cool...
Joey: The remix version of "Sunrise" on iTunes is crapola and completely mangles the original version. Try to find the Motivo remix I reference on the list above as it incorporates more of the Hall & Oates sample. PS The new loft pics look sweet... How did you resolve the issue of where to place your keyboard from several months back?
leeds: Thanks for the suggestion. I'll definitely check out El Indio - Charanga Cakewalk. Seems like my kind of stuff!
Joey: Agreed! The original version of the Simply Red song is the best and still my favorite. For the purposes of an outdoor 'cue, the dancier version fit the bill a little better for me. Re: the Baby Grand. Wow. Good for you. Can't wait to see the new pics...
Enrique, thanks for the creds!..was running low ;)
AND for the lists, they're always fun to peruse!
I have Lady- Modjo in acoustic version, like it!
Check out: El Indio - Charanga Cakewalk (described as 'Tex-Mex tango-esque cumbia') it's pretty cool.
-My current Spring into Summer favourite (just discovered it-from'78) is Marley's Sun is Shining. So good!
Hey Enrique,
I actually have the Simply Red Sunrise EP (from a friend in London) and it has all the versions discussed as well as the original, which personally I think is the best.
Thanks for the props on the loft, there are even newer ones which show the new fireplace and a couple of new lighting projects. As to how I solved the keyboard placement problem, I couple of weeks ago I bit the bullet and bought this:

I'll be posting more pictures in the next few days, because the patio is finally done as well.
Cheers
