The pork industry has received its share of bad press. Rolling Stone recently published an article entitled
Boss Hog The subtitle reads "America's top pork producer churns out a sea of waste that has destroyed rivers, killed millions of fish and generated one of the largest fines in EPA history. Welcome to the dark side of the other white meat."
The lengthy subtitle says it all and even a glance at the upsetting pictures will certainly make you pause next time you pass the bacon. The good news is that there are humane, sustainable options that actually taste better. Just ask Corby Kummer, an Atlantic writer, who is a bona fide expert about the plight of pork.

I picked up Niman Ranch bacon at Trader Joe's a year or two ago and have been hooked since-- it tastes significantly better than the bacon I normally bought. On the other hand, I never used to be much of a fan of bacon, and now I am, which probably isn't so good.
i agree, niman ranch is the best. my husband dubbed it "the king of bacon" when he tried it. he is a southerner and very into bacon, so this is high praise. i have to admit i didn't know that they were such a responsible company. i'm glad to hear it and i'll spread the word!
