Based in Seattle, Kerf creates modern plywood kitchens that can be custom built or premade, flat-packed, and shipped to anyone willing to take on a DIY installation job.

Although the plywood look might not be for everyone, it’s great for lovers of contemporary design and materials. Kerf creates modern cabinets in 16 different colors of laminate that they apply in gridded, Modrian-esque patterns. The cabinet bases are made from FSC-certified plywood, formaldehyde-free glues, and no-VOC finishes.

If you live in Seattle, they can create your cabinets in their Interbay workshop and install them for you. If you live outside the area, they’ll ship readymade cabinets to your contractor or installer. And if you’re up for installing the cabinets yourself, you can save some money and buy a DIY kit — prices for DIY cabinets start in the low hundreds. (For custom cabinetry, request a quote online.)

Their 5,800 square foot workshop in Northwest Seattle includes a showroom where you can see built pieces. Although it’s not exactly a storefront, they do welcome visitors and they’re generally open from 9:30 am to 6 pm Monday through Friday. If you’re outside Seattle, you can check out their portfolio of sample projects online. (Beyond kitchens, they do bathrooms and freestanding storage pieces for any room of the house.)
