NYC Greenmarket Alert: The Corn Is Here!

2007_07_03_sweetcorn.jpgThe first locally grown corn of the season is here in New York City today! We grew up hearing corn should be "knee high by the 4th of July," but Kitchen tipster Stefan tell us the corn on the cob is already for sale at the Greenmarket at on 2nd Ave and 10th street.

We don't know the name of the farm or the cost per ear (do you?), but Stefan tell us the farm is located in balmy South Jersey, where they enjoy a longer growing season.

Have a Sweetcorn Sighting in your town? Or have you come across the kernels here in NYC earlier than today? Email it in using the "email us" button on the right side of the site.

I was told on Saturday that there would be corn at the Greenmarket in Union Square tomorrow!
I can't remember the name of the farm, but the farmers are from Southeast Pennsylvania if that helps.
I CAN'T WAIT!
yay corn!

Here in Arkansas, we started seeing local corn a few weeks ago, but it was rather puny. Now we're starting to get the larger ears full of plump kernels. And VERY tasty!

Ah, that WONDERFUL Jersey corn. I swear it has to be one of the best corns grown in the USA. They don't call Jersey 'The Garden State' for nothing.
