We've heard the cool spring has made for slim pickins early on, so some CSAs have delayed their first delivery. Ours starts next week.
So, what are we looking forward to the most?
All the local things we can't seem to easily get our hands on because we're:
A) Late to the farmers' market. Or...
B) Garden-less.
That means strawberries (we hope), bunches of baby greens and arugula, and more tiny turnips. We're also experiencing a little bit of a rhubarb obsession right now, so we're wishing for some of that, too.
Mainly we're hoping that our first CSA box will quell some of the intense jealousy we feel every time we read one of Kathryn's reports from California. Go ahead and click on the link. Those are peaches in that photo...
For those New Yorkers who have already gotten a box — or two? — let us know what's in it. For everyone else, what are you looking forward to?

My CSA (located on Long Island) started a few weeks ago with pick-your-own argula, asparagus, daffodils and tulips. Two weeks ago, we started our weekly pickups--and my box was filled with spinach, argula, napa cabbage, radishes, turnips (those Asian salad ones that are great raw or cooked), and chives. Next pickup is tomorrow!

My CSA in DC starts tonight! I'll plan on taking a picture and sending it in tomorrow. We'll be getting: garlic curls, endive, Swiss chard, lettuce, spring onions, lettuce mix or savory (herb)!

My CSA in Boston started yesterday. We just got a small box -- two heads of lettuce, spinach, turnips and parsnips. Our farm told us that once the weather here starts getting warmer, our weekly produce won't even FIT in the box! I can't wait to try new recipes each week, especially for the vegetables I've never used in my kitchen before.

ours (Cobble Hill, Bklyn) started last night, and while the shares were small, the vegetables are absolutely gorgeous. spinach, two leafy lettuces, curly pepper cress, tarragon, asparagus and gigantic spring onions. very excited for next week!

Ours (Sunnyside, Queens) starts tomorrow! We're getting radishes, two kinds of arugula, Boston lettuce, spinach, and possibly rhubarb. This is the second year we're doing the CSA, and I am SO EXCITED. After last summer, it was painful to go back to eating supermarket vegetables.

I am so excited! My CSA hasnt started yet (I am also in Boston) I am looking forward to radishes, arugala, berries and SNAP PEAS!

Nudik- You can read our explanation of CSAs here, just to give you some introductory info. Most CSAs fill up by March, so you may be too late for this season, but definitely check localharvest (link in the post above). There may be farms that let you come pick your own produce- and it can tell you about greenmarkets near you, too.

I'm in Minnesota. My CSA is located in Wisconsin. I received my first delivery the middle of May. I'm also doing a cheese share this year, which is REALLY fun. I've already received the asparagus I was looking forward too and some spinach and a lot of other things. I'm looking forward to berry season.

My CSA here in south Texas started three weeks ago (which was about 3 weeks later than expected). It's been plenty hot but also really dry. We are getting tomatos, cucumbers, and a ridiculous amount of yellow squash. Some basil and some zucchini and that's been about it so far.
