Holiday Gift Bag 2007: Win a Cook-Zen Pot and Cookbooks

2-3-giftbagtopper3.jpg

2007_12_19-Giveaway.jpg

We are giving away one gift bag each weekday through December 21.
Happy Holidays from The Kitchn! | Previous Days' Gift Bags

thirteen.jpg Gift: Cook-Zen Microwave Cookware and cookbook, plus a copy of Serves One: Simple Meals to Savor When You're On Your Own
Designer: Machiko Chiba
Shop: The Cook-Zen pot is at Amazon for $59.99. Cook-Zen cookbook at Amazon for $12.21, and Serves One also at Amazon for 11.53.

As soon as the holidays are over we are all running back to plain, simple foods cooked in a healthy manner. Enter an unexpected partner: your microwave. This pot was developed by Japanese cooking advisor Machiko Chiba to help people cook healthy food fast. We're giving one away, along with the companion cookbook and a copy of Serves One: Simple Meals to Savor When You're On Your Own. Click to see some of the recipes (mackerel simmered in miso, anyone?) for this pot, and to enter our giveaway!

We were initially skeptical of a pot for our microwave, but have been won over by the thinking behind this product. Chiba offers five promises behind the pot's design. First, it's healthy; it requires no extra oil or fat to cook your food. Next, it's fast and easy. You can have recipes for dishes like string beans and tofu, broccoli with kelp, eggplant simmered in soy sauce, and watercress with sesame ready in minutes. It's also tasty; the pot traps flavors inside instead of letting them evaporate. And then also, it's safe - even for children and the elderly. They can cook full meals without dealing with a hot burner.

The two books will give you fresh ideas and inspiration for cooking those simple meals we crave after the holidays - even after all the guests have left.

To enter the giveaway, tell us your favorite meal to eat when you're alone. Enter your comment below by 8:59pm PT/11:59 EST FRIDAY December 21, 2007.

Giveaway Rules
Please, only one comment per person per giveaway post. Duplicate comments will be discarded. You'll need to be a registered member of the Apartment Therapy network of sites to post a comment. If you haven't registered yet, please click here: welcome to our community & create an account.

Oh my god, I must have that pot.

I almost never cook for just myself. I hate eating alone. But I have a kid so it's really not an issue. I'll often cook something that I know he won't touch, like brussel sprouts or mustard greens, alongside whatever I'm cooking for the 2 of us. Usually a simple sauteed or roasted fresh veg.

Time to spill the beans...so to speak.
I make a dump soap called Taco Soup.....
makes me smile as I eat my way thru the pot!

1 (16oz.) can pinto beans, drained
1 (16oz.) can kidney beans, drained
1 (16oz.) can hominy beans, drained
1 (16oz.) can lima beans, drained
3 (16oz.) cans of stewed tomatoes, undrained
1 package of dry taco seasoning mix
1 package of dry ranch dressing mix
2 lbs. of cooked and drained ground beef or chicken
1 onion, chopped
1 small can of chopped chilies
1-1/2 cups of water
grated cheese
green onions

Brown the meat and onion until no pink remains. Add to a large pot with all the
canned items. Add the water and dry package ingredients. Stir until well mixed
over a medium heat. You need to cook until hot (about 15-20 minutes). Serve
in soup bowls topped with chopped onion and grated cheese. Serve with corn
chips.
