Kitchen Tour #3: Lucky's Sunny Self-Made

2006_12_6_luckykitchen.jpg

Name: Lucky
Location: Los Angeles, CA

Lucky and his family did most of the work on this new kitchen themselves. They find that makes this sunny kitchen all the more rewarding. The kitchen works as both a place for preparing food and hanging out with their young daughter (check out the alphabet magnet wall, made just for her!)

With the project's environmental impact and budget in mind, they chose a bamboo floor and Richlite counter tops. New windows and doors and white cabinets send the Los Angeles sun bouncing through the new space. The blue wall color manages to feel both modern and homey at the same time.

Yes, very lucky! I'm coming over to borrow your stove...
I love the soothing colors with those shiny cabinets. I'm glad to learn about Richlite too, I was not familiar with that material.

Just beautiful! You've done a fabulous job of using Ikea products and not making it look like they're Ikea products (coming from someone who owns a number of Ikea products, including those dining chairs, only in orange). Very nice contrast of finishes and colors.

Does anyone know what type of blue the walls are? Thanks!

It's Celtic Grey from Behr. You can buy it at home depot. When you paint it initially it looks too "baby" blue but as it gets darker it gets pretty nice.

Thanks Lucky! You've inspired me to clean up my place and paint paint paint! I love your kitchen space!

Lucky, can you tell me how exactly you concealed the water heater? Did you build a screen or just paint it? We have one in our kitchen that I'd love to conceal. Thanks!
