Kitchen Spotlight: Lisa's Bright, Rich Rental

2008_06_11_Spotlight1.jpgWe are totally loving this collection of Takahashi tin containers from Lisa's beautiful apartment kitchen in San Francisco. It's just a taste of the inspiration we found in this kitchen. It's a rental, but Lisa has lived there for 12 years, and it looks like she has made herself completely at home as a cook.

Look at a few more of our favorite things in this rich and inspiring rental kitchen.

Lisa and I have VERY similar kitchens, and styles! My kitchen also has the relatively-dark wood cabinetry, the faux-marble laminate counter and not-so-matching neutral floor, with whiteish walls and chair rails all around. The shape of the room is different, but we even have remarkably similar built-ins.

I just moved in a couple months ago and I've been really frustrated with it, trying to figure out what the heck to do about all these disparate "neutrals" from different eras — the cute original touches paved over by sorta-ugly 80s or 90s "updates". But now! After seeing this kitchen, I realize all I have to do is bring what comes naturally into the kitchen: lots of colorful bits and my preferred vintage kitchen objects, and don't be afraid to look up! It's not an ideal blank slate, but the moved-in result feels just right. What a relief!

I love the Takahashi canisters! I have an old hutch with shelves with canisters on them, but the canisters are nothing special - would love some with color.
Who/what/when/where - are they flea market finds (they look mid-70's colors from the photo) or are they available commercially?
