Le Creuset: Great Customer Service Experience

2009_06_04-LeCreuset.jpgOne thing I love about Le Creuset, apart from the good craftsmanship, beautiful colors, and durability of their products is their lifetime guarantee. I've never had to put that to the test until recently, when I clumsily dropped my beloved 3 1/2 quart round French oven with metal knob onto a concrete floor and one of the handles snapped off, taking a chunk of pot wall with it. Oh no!

Never fear, I packaged it and mailed it back to the Le Creuset returns department, along with a note explaining what happened, with my name and address included. For your reference, here is the address:

LE CREUSET OF AMERICA, INC.
ATTN: RETURNS DEPARTMENT
114 Bob Gifford Blvd.
Early Branch, SC 29916 USA

Four weeks later, they sent me a nice letter saying that they couldn't replace it for free because they couldn't find any evidence of flawed craftmanship on the item. No matter how well it is made, if cast iron falls on a hard concrete floor, it will break. But! They said that they would allow me to buy a new French oven in the same size, in a color of my choice, for 75% off! I am very pleased with this result.

That's awesome!

Years ago I bought a set of Corelle, and noticed that a plate had a small smudge in the glaze. You could hardly notice it, but at an angle it looked like the plate was a little dirty.

I sent an email, asking where I could buy just this one plate..........and two days later FedEX was at my door with a replacement plate for FREE.

When my mom moved to the states 30 years ago, she purchased a set of Revereware pots and pans. A handle broke a few years ago. She mailed it to the company and they sent her a brand new pot. She still uses them.

Le Creuset is awesome.

BTW, watch out for their enameled-steel stockpots (the quality just isn't as good as the cast iron). I got one for Christmas two years ago and within three months a large piece of the enamel came off into the soup I was making. They sent a replacement, but six months later the same thing happened, and I had to send it back for a second replacement. Arrgh.

Thanks for this story! I have a broken Le Creuset item (my fault) and I'll send it back to them to see what they say.

Corelle has a guarantee with all of their dishes that they will replace any dish that is broken, cracked, or chipped within three years of purchase. Just be sure to bring in the broken dish so they can see that it was a Corelle brand plate and they will replace it at no cost to you.

The important thing is to bring in the dish. You wouldn't believe how many times people come in and say they broke a dish but without proof we can't replace it for them.

I dropped the lid of my dutch oven and broke the plastic knob. Le Creuset sent me a new one free of charge.

Another great company: Breville. My dog ate the lid on my Ikon blender, and they sent me a new one free of charge.

I like paying a little more for quality and getting no charge replacement parts.
