Chocolate Beer Cupcakes at the Brooklyn Kitchen Blog

2008_06_11-bklyncupcake.jpgCupcake contests are quite popular these days, and this one actually took place a month ago, but we were just browsing the Brooklyn Kitchen blog and saw this recipe for Kate's Beer Geek Chocolate Cupcakes with Salted Caramel Icing. Hello!

We were initially looking at upcoming classes at the Brooklyn Kitchen in Williamsburg. There's a chicken butchering class tomorrow and a lamb butchering class on the 17th, for those of you who are more carnivores than sweets lovers.

But we're stuck on these cupcakes... Kate Brown took home Best in Show for these babies, and we love the idea of adding beer to a chocolate cake. Plus, she recommends a sprinkle of salt over the top of the salted caramel icing. Getting a subtle crunch of salt in a cookie or cupcake is the perfect way to wake up your tastebuds if they've gone comatose from sugar.

Here's the recipe:

I made these cupcakes last night, and they are absolutely delicious! The combination of the almost bitter chocolate cake with the sweet icing is amazing, and the salted caramel really brings it all together!
