Recycled Beauty: Boylan Soda Bottles as Bud Vases

2009_05_04-ranunculus1.jpgIn Week Three of the Kitchen Cure, part of your assignment was to do something beautiful for your kitchen. Here's a shot of our dining table over the weekend—not exactly the kitchen, but close. And it uses those recycled soda bottles we've been talking about...

This was the table setting for a casual dinner party, and it was so cheap! The Boylan Black Cherry bottles were $3.50 for a 4-pack (bonus: we got to enjoy the actual soda first), and the ranunculus were $5 for a small bunch.

Just one of these propped up in the corner of your kitchen would brighten up the space. But four lined up across our dining table made a statement with very little money and effort. We just love the look of these old-fashioned bottles. They're so perfect for a single stem.

Ours have now moved to various spots around the apartment; one in the kitchen, one in the bathroom, two in the living room...

Ranunculus! An overgrown cousin of the common buttercup. I love them too; I stripped hundreds of ranunculus stems for my wedding arrangements. They last for ages, too...

I posted this exact type of ensemble on my blog weeks ago! I used old glass coke bottles and lemonade bottles - I really liked the way the different sizes of bottles amplified the different sizes of ranunculus. Do you read my blog? Funny that you did exactly what I did; although I do think my setup was slightly more artistic ;)

I know there are probably a million places selling ranunculus, but there are none in my neighborhood. Where did you get these? I just might have to make a special trip.

Also, ranunculus is a really fun word to type.

I love using pretty drink bottles as casual flower vases. My two favorite bottles to use are Acqua Panna water bottles and Wine country soda bottles.
