Kitchen Spotlight: Jeff and Martha's Restored Vintage

When we talk about kitchen renovations and remodels, we are usually looking at kitchens that have been modernized or brought up to date. Well, this kitchen is an exception: it went both forward and back in time!

This Staten Island home kitchen belongs to a couple who love the vintage roots of the house. The home was designed by renowned architect Edward A. Sargent over a hundred years ago, and Martha and Jeff took it upon themselves to lovingly restore the house to its original beauty.

The kitchen looks quite vintage, but it was actually rebuilt piece by piece; they say that they ripped out a terrible 1980s remodel to put the more appropriate fittings back in. The beautiful tin ceiling is new, and Jeff insisted that the electrician leave the pipes exposed for a vintage feel.

There are small antique details everywhere: a deep sink, vintage stove, Jadeite glass, old pencil sharpener, and old-fashioned can opener. We love the two green Hoosiers! But they don't sacrifice modern functionality; the gleaming fridge is new and well-suited to the needs of their growing family.

We love this kitchen; it feels comfortable and warm, and it's a pleasure to see a space so well-suited to the style and age of its home.

Love it! Love, love, love! I could ramble on about this in detail, but that pretty much sums it up.

Aha! I knew that pencil sharpener when I saw it. A beautiful house tour! And a beautiful kitchen, my favorite part.

Looks lovely, I would like to copy the look for my kitchen redo. Is there a dishwasher?
