Kitchen Spotlight: Dream Kitchen in Denmark

2008_05_28-Danish.jpgYou know, we really try to stay grounded, here at The Kitchn. Yes, we like to dabble in high-end products from time to time, but we're realistic. We know that most of us live in kitchens that aren't ideal - too small, cramped, outdated. We believe that good food is possible wherever you cook - over a campfire, on an old electric stovestop, in a dark galley kitchen. Joy and nourishment are available wherever, whenever.

But. (Big but.) Every now and then we allow ourselves to sigh over truly dream kitchens. We just noticed this house tour from Denmark. They have Hansen Living kitchen furniture installed and just - wow. Step into our dream kitchen - wood oven and all...

We saw this Hansen Living kitchen furniture again at ICFF and it's just as handsome and impressive in person.

There's a small, casual dine-in area in the kitchen. Note the high chair! We are also envious of all that natural light, and the French doors leading to the backyard.

Yes, not one, but TWO narrow refrigerators. In some households this would be total overkill, of course, but if you do a lot of entertaining and cooking ahead it's a real advantage.

Narrow, built-in cabinets, with a great look when they're pulled out...

We love the pull-out construction! Very nice - and a good thing to remember for small kitchens too.

Slate floor.

The warming tray on the left is common in Danish household kitchens.

Deep, wide farmhouse sink.

Bar sink in center island.

Translucent storage. A little more forgiving than entirely open storage.

Wood stove in the kitchen. We wonder if this is pizza-ready, or if it's just for warmth and decoration.

They even have a version of our dream dining setup.

So lovely. Well, we can look, and dream - and perhaps be inspired in a small way in our rental kitchen.

Love it! Also, my friends have that high chair for their kids. It's so much more attractive than the fug plastic stuff you usually see, and it lets the kid have a place at the table instead of banishing them to their own tray. Highly recommended.

love that high chair too -- the stokke tripp trapp. friends of mine use the same one for their kids that they've used as wee ones!
