Kitchen Spotlight: Chez Joan
Paris, France

joan's-kitchen-3.jpgJoan moved to Paris at 75, trading in her three-bedroom house for a one-bedroom apartment in the 7th arrondissement. Her son designed this fully equipped but compact kitchen that manages to cleverly incorporate storage, counter space, a sink, refrigerator, regular oven, dishwasher and washing machine -- and even a little counter where Joan can pause for a coffee break if she doesn't feel like sitting at the dining room table...

And he made the space a point of interest from a decorative perspective by creating a backsplash with tiles in a mismatched pattern that add a dash of vibrant color to the neutral space.
