apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Joe and Kristin's Warm and Cozy Craftsman Kitchen
Kitchen Spotlight

When we first saw this cozy, homey kitchen on Apartment Therapy, we said wow! That is exactly the kind of kitchen we'd like to cook in.

This warm space in West Adams, California, was handcrafted in large part by its owners, Joe and Kristin. They both say that one of their favorite elements in the house is their kitchen island, with the pots hanging overhead. (We love the wagon wheel pot rack!)

Joe actually made the kitchen island, too! He says: "I made the kitchen island out of a free work bench that I saw out for the trash. I shortened it, I created a new top out of basic 18” x 48” x 1.5” pine would boards I got at Home Depot. I joined 3 of them together to create the top then stained and polyed it. I then bought shelf brackets from Anthropologie to support the overhang that the stools are under."

It's so lovely, and so is the dining room and their little garden out back. (Wouldn't we love to still have tomatoes right now too! Lucky Californians!)

Nice! I love the artwork on the walls in place of upper cabs. Love the island, too.
