Space Saver: Fold-Up Gas Burners from Alpes Inox

We saw these very cool flip-up gas ranges over at our sister site Unplggd and had to share them with you. In the right kitchen, these could make all the difference between having no counter space and having just enough.

These fold-up cooktops are designed to be placed on a countertop with minimal installation requirements. We think they could be really quite helpful in an especially tiny kitchen. You can find out more about them at the Alpes Inox website:

Believe it or not, this isn't a totally new concept. In the late 80s/early 90s my family moved into a small ranch home that was built in the late sixties or maybe even 50s. The kitchen had one run of cabinetry, and 2 sets of 2 fold up burners! Albeit not as fancy as the ones in the photo, but they folded up against the wall to save space! When folded you saw that the underside that became visible when folded was copper. It went somewhat well with the retro boomerang laminate...

My dad eventually remodeled the kitchen putting in a traditional freestanding type range, but man, I definitely remember those flip down burners and that cool countertop!
