We found out about the website Houzz through this post at AT:LA. Users, including a lot of professional architecture and design firms, upload images that you can browse and save in your own collection. We of course focused on kitchens, and we're loving these dark, moody paint jobs. See larger photos below...
Faith has brought you several kitchen galleries lately: White, Bright, and Clean, Red Like a Tomato, and Orange Like a Clementine. Those categories seem to follow a typical kitchen trend: cheery, sunny, and uplifting.
Black or navy blue cabinets might be a downer for some people, especially in a kitchen that doesn't get a lot of natural light. But we're big fans, especially when the paint is glossy. Dark blues and black feel rich and cozy. And you can always add white tiles, white countertops, or a lighter color wall to keep the space from feeling closed-in. (As in the photo below, which is from Drew Barrymore's office, featured in Domino.)
What do you think? Anyone else a fan of dark, painted cabinets?

I like the navy cabinets, probably because the paint appears to have a bit of cobalt in it, and the kitchen in the photo gets enough natural light to offset the darkness of the cabinets.
The black kitchen is just too dark for me. I would prefer black on the base cabinets only and a lighter color for the wall cabinets.

What heather said. I like the blue cabinets too. I love blue in the kitchen and have a lot blue in my dishes, so I'd steal the cabinets in a heartbeat if they weren't built in. And I like how the white dishes look against that wall.
The black kitchen, though, is just... funerary. In spite of the lighter-colored island. There's this weird kink in me that finds it funny; I guess it seems overdone. Ah well, I'm not cooking in it.

Nice! I love the two tone approach to cupboards. In my own kitchen, I have dark wall mounts and then an antique white finished island. I love the contrast!

I really like these looks. I'm getting a little tired of sterile, white kitchens. I'm thinking about opening my kitchen up some to the living room, and I think the darker colors would make the kitchen blend in a little more -- look more like a regular room.
