apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Good Question: Good Books on Kitchen Design?

2008_04_22-books.jpgI'm far from the point in my life where I should even be thinking about the design of my kitchen, but that doesn't stop me from fantasizing.

Can you guys recommend some good books on kitchen design?

Thanks!
Mike

Mike, we're sort of going to bail on this one, since we spend so much time reading design blogs we just don't get around to a lot of books.

That being said, we do like the looks of this book: Small Spaces, Beautiful Kitchens, by Tara McLellan. It's $14.79 at Amazon.

Also, we're going to shamelessly plug the new Apartment Therapy book! Yes, did you know that we just released a new book? It's called Apartment Therapy Presents: Real Homes, Real People, Hundreds of Design Solutions. It's chock-full of inspiration from 40 homes originally featured on the site and re-shot for presentation in this book.

There are a ton of kitchens and dining rooms and plenty of great inspiration.

Any more ideas for Mike?

I can't recommend any books but I can recommend literature from kitchen manufacturers.

Visit the showrooms and collect the literature and you will have so many different styles and designs to look at. When you are ready to design your kitchen you will have a lot of great ideas.

I have a recommendation but it's really old and it is SO not about how the kitchen looks. Instead, it's about how the kitchen works and how you can design a kitchen to support good, sustainable, healthy eating and living. The book is called Smart Kitchen by David Goldbeck. It's got no color pics, just funky, hippy drawings. But, I have used the organization ideas in it for years as I've made small changes to my kitchen (I, too, unfortunately, am many years away from the remodel of my dreams). I highly recommend this off-beat book.
