High&Dry: New Dish Rack That Folds Flat

2009-10-06-HighDry.jpgSpacesaving, good-looking, genuinely functional dish racks are hard to find. This new folding dish rack from black + blum hopes to fill all those requirements, and more.

2009-10-06-HighDry02.jpgBlack + blum is a British group with quite a few clever, modern designs for the home and the kitchen under their belts already. With the High&Dry, their aim was to create a dish rack that was extremely functional yet sculptural. They say that they were inspired by architectural models of buildings.

The dishrack folds up into a flat and neat storage state, and then unfolds to hold even wine glasses with the wave shape of spikes on top. There's a drainage tray with a spout that can flip in or out, depending on whether you want to drain into the sink or not.

The whole setup is made from stainless steel and polypropylene and is packaged in an unbleached cardboard box, which means the packaging can be recycled.

The only drawback (you knew there had to be a downer, right?) is that there are only limited numbers available right now, in October, and black + blum is located in England. The price is £39, before shipping. If you're interested in one of these dish racks, email black + blum and get on their list.

Nice - but if I didn't have a dishwasher, I think I'd stick with one of those $15 folding bamboo racks on a dishtowel the way I did years ago...

I couldn't agree with you more, bepsf. Trying to improve on the bamboo rack is like trying to improve the paper clip.

Black Blum have a warehouse in New York now, so you don't have to pay for shipping from the UK when ordering from their website.
