World Bread Day

2006_10_13-Bread.jpgMonday is World Bread Day, which is inspiring some bread-related events around the blogosphere.

Artisan baking site The Fresh Loaf has some basic ideas for celebrating, like eating good bread (of course) or teaching someone how to bake bread.

Food weblog Kochtopf is hosting a Bread Day event by inviting other food bloggers to bake and blog about bread on Monday, with a roundup of all the entries to be posted later on the site.

Me, I'm thinking about baking something this weekend; I'm also thinking about my favorite kinds of bread. I've had a thing for potato breads lately, and I want to try a dill-potato dinner roll. What's your favorite bread, and how will you celebrate World Bread Day?

I love love love sourdough bread! My dad set me up with some starter and taught me how to make sourdough bread a few years ago and I've been baking it ever since.

Having said that, this particular weekend I'll be making bagels (yes, boiled!) for my boyfriend's birthday brunch (for those who've been following my brunch drama on the open thread: yes, I caved to the family and birthday boy requests and will make bagels. Ah, well, my adoring public, eh?)

Omigosh! I am so excited about World Bread Day! I think I'll make one of the flatbreads from the recent SF Chronicle article:

I can't let world bread day pass without baking!!! Looks as if my plans for the eveing have just changed. Now, what to make ......... perhaps Bernard Clayton's Egg Harbor Bread - which is rich but simple and impossible not to love. Plus it will still be great tomorrow so I can bring some in to the office to share!!
