Grills as Decoration: Chicago's Weber Grill Restaurant

Maybe it's because we have grilling on the brain this month, but this patio caught our eye the other day. It's Weber Grill Restaurant in Chicago, and they've created a patio border with fences made from grill grates and Weber grills used as planters.

It got us thinking about other alternative uses for charcoal grills, perhaps older ones that might otherwise be tossed ...

Here are a few ideas:

Line a grill with plastic and fill with ice for an instant beverage cooler.
Trace a grill grate on a piece of cardboard or foam core and cut out the shape. Cut a piece of plastic sheeting or plastic tablecloth several inches larger than the board. Cover one side of the board with the plastic and tape to the back side. Return the grate to the grill, place the plastic-covered board on top and use as a small serving table at your next outdoor party. We're thinking it would be the perfect size for a punchbowl.
Attach a grill grate to a patio railing or exterior wall, add hooks and keep grilling utensils handy while your food cooks.

Those things usually get tipped over on the sidewalk several times a year.

More impressive, I think, are the 3 Form panels they have hanging in their "dining" room. You can see them through the window on the North side of the restaurant.

The grill grates look neat, but the ties are kinda an eye sore.
