Design Friday: Marti Guixe's Marvelous Food

7-Step Cookie. Hands-free Lollipop. Edible furniture made from carob blocks. Cakes with their ingredients represented in precise pie-chart decoration. These are just a few of the strange and fantastic things in Martí Guixé's portfolio.

Guixé is a designer who's done work for Droog and other product and home design firms. He turned to food, however, which he sees as the most compelling area of design in our modern world. He says, "I have considered that I will buy perhaps two chairs in my lifetime, but I buy food three times a day."

While we might look askance at his mission as a food-designer - his idea of food design "makes possible to think in food as an edible designed product, an object that negates any reference to cooking, tradition and gastronomy" - we wholeheartedly agree that more attention could be paid to food in the design world. And he's certainly attention-catching!
