Kitchen Art: A Spot for All Those Fruit Stickers

Art installation, or clutter? We just spotted this wall o' fruit stickers in an Apartment Therapy house tour, and we think it's rather charming, in a childlike sort of way. What do you think?

Dan, the inhabitant of this flat in San Francisco, clearly eats a lot of produce, and he keeps track by sticking all those colorful stickers on the backsplash behind his sink.

• See the whole tour here: House Tour: Dan's Upper Market "Lake" House

This "solution" for fruit stickers reminds of the apple-a-day sticker poster linked below. Why not keep track of all the fruit and vegetables you eat by sticking your stickers on a chart (or on the wall)?

Cute until it has to be cleaned.

We've been putting all the produce stickers on our indoor compost bin. To clean it, we fill it with hot soapy water, so the outside has close to 2 years worth of stickers on it. It's pretty intense. I like wall idea, it's fun.

I love this idea, creating a unique art work from something which would normally be thrown away.

It's hideous. AT posted this a year ago and it was hideous then. Why do you want advertising stickers stuck on your walls? Why is this back?

I vote "clutter".

rotting fruit particles galore, stuck to your wall

This looks horrible. I would go crazy looking at this "friction" and feeling of being a slob. I want a neat, tidy, clean kitchen to work in, not a cluttered, junky mess. All produce stickers are placed on the inner lining of the garbage sack or folded in half and disposed.

Ugh. This is terrible. AT posted a similar idea awhile ago, only it was fruit stickers all over the insides of someone's kitchen cabinets. Not EVERYTHING looks good in multiples.

I love it. I imagine it would look pretty bad for the first couple months, but as it is now, I like how it looks. I do agree with Joan A., though, that cleaning would be problematic.

I have a co-worker that puts them on his office calendar. Its pretty cool because the calendar is ya know... disposable.

I did this to my white cappuccino machine (RIP) and it looked pretty silly, but I liked it that way.

As for cleaning, those stickers are frikking TENACIOUS. The machine got cleaned with soapy water on a fairly regular basis, and they would come up at the edges a little sometimes and the ink washed away, but rarely did they actually unstick themselves.

I think it's better than putting them in a landfill, but really they should be biodegradable, if used at all.

I already confessed to this myself. Dan's whole apt is beautifully and thoughtfully arranged. It looks modest in money spent and rich in creativity. GO DAN!

it looks cute from far away - like a polka dotty pattern, but it would irk the shit out of me up close.

As for reposts that aren't labeled as reposts - FantasticMrFaux, I've made my peace with them. Sometimes there are just really slow news days... But that makes at least 2 reposts in a day. (the popsicle one is from 08)

I kind of like the idea, but this seems a bit messy. I would totally get behind putting produce stickers on a calendar to keep track of consumption!

Who am I to judge? From my last 5 mammograms, I have taken the nipple stickers home and stuck them to my bathroom mirror...

I started sticking wine bottle labels to my wall. It started out as just a temporary spot until I could paste them in my wine journal, but then I decided I liked it in a weird way.

I think it's really cute! I usually just stick those labels on my sink and eventually they fall off.

When I visit my parents, I sometimes stick the labels on my forehead or on my dad :)

A man in my office has stuck all of his fruit stickers on the edge of his desk, and it repulses me to look at. These are in more of a pattern, but the idea still disgusts me.

I put them on my compost bucket, I use it as a way to remind myself that if I bought from the farm stand down the road instead of the market I wouldn't have to find something to do with the stickers. It's my way of reminding myself to buy local.

Reminds me of my old Crown Vic/ex firechief car I had when I was in college... plastered it with punker bumper stickers. It practically held the rustbucket together!

And @1050908 - you are CRACKING ME UP!

I hate to change the subject, but that outlet in the picture looks too dangerous, especially near the sink. Please replace it with a GFCI outlet.
