We stumbled into these fish yesterday on the walk to work. They were hanging out -- momentarily unattended -- on the sidewalk in front of a fish store in Manhattan's Murray Hill.
Can anyone recognize what kind of fish these are? We didn't know.
Check out our picture of the huge fish sitting next to this pile after the jump. We can't figure out what they lopped the big fish's head off, while the rest of pile didn't seem like they'd met the fish monger yet?
Anyone grilling fish (or going fishing) for the long weekend?

They look like speckled sea trout--and they're delicious.
the big fish could be a flounder or halibut. not too sure.

I don't know what kind of fish they are, but when I worked at a seafood restaurant in Manhattan we used to get HUGE fish missing the heads delivered. Sometimes they were 200 pounds. Crazy!
