It's coffee week here at The Kitchn, and we need another cup. It's Monday morning - where's your coffee?
Coffee has so many uses in the kitchen - a teaspoon adds depth to chocolate goodies, and we've heard it's the secret ingredient in a famous gumbo.
Our previous coffee coverage has ranged from cold toddy coffee makers to the (incredible) Clover vacuum press coffee. We've asked you about your favorite way to brew coffee, and we've shown you our best coffee grinder.
Plus there's been Irish coffee and coffee from small jungle animals...
More coming this week - how does coffee figure into your kitchen and cooking?

I like to make a big pot in the morning (knowing only two cups are going to be enjoyed) and then I put the rest in the fridge and when we have friends over in the evening we pour half a glass of cold coffee a splash of Irish Cream and then fill it to the top with low fat milk and it's delish!

Admittedly, I generally only use coffee for drinking before noon. Occasionally, on a cold night, I'll have some and mix it with chocolate syrup and brandy.

Coffee was excommunicated from my kitchen a number of years ago. Why? My bf hates it; he doesn't drink it and even hates the smell of it. Luckily, I only need my coffee fix in the afternoon, so I make mine at the office.

i just got a grinder for xmas, so now i'm starting to actually notice the spectrum of goooood coffee and baaaaaad coffee. i hadn't before! i bought my ground coffee at frickin' dunkin donuts. knet!
i don't use it for cooking, but in the warmer months i always make a huge pot and put it right into a 2 quart container in the fridge. i live on iced coffee in the summer. at one point i was making coffee cubes, too :)

I drink coffee all day. I have a cold process pot, a stovetop percolator, a stovetop espresso machine, a french press, and a chemex drip pot. I use coffee in baking and in cooking (it's a great ingredient in stews). I love to brew coffee prior to having guests because the smell is so rich and inviting!

I used to make a coffee creme brulee.
It was a standard creme brulee base steeped with ground espresso.
I made them in coffee cups of course with a little whipped cream on top and some little cookies.

Lizaboo, you and my husband would get along. I don't actually drink coffee (makes me jumpy plus I prefer tea), but we have a drip coffee maker, stove top cappuccino maker, stove top espresso maker and now a French Press, along with a burr grinder. All were purchased in the past year and a half and all live on our kitchen counter and/or stove.
I haven't found a way to use it in cooking, but my husband would be very pleased if I did. I look forward to learning some tips this week on that.

Mm coffee. I'm usually a one-cup-a-day guy (from my trusty Aeropress), and I love to use it in cooking. Over the weekend I made coffee-cardamom pots de crème for me and the gf, and they were great.
The next leap I'm thinking of taking is buying some sort of home roaster and starting to roast my own beans, although there is an excellent coffee roaster nearby (Counter Culture, Raleigh, NC), so I'm not feeling quite such a push to do that.

I love the smell of freshly ground coffee! Nothing says family and warm mornings like fresh coffee.
I remember when I was a kid, my grandmother used to send me to the coffee grinder shop. She would put the coffee beans in a vintage banania (it's a chocolate powder brand) box, and I would hand the box to the coffee guy. He had this huge coffee grinder and it seemed that it wasn't working properly because he would hit the machine every two seconds with a broom stick to make sure the coffee was going all the way through. It's something that will stay with me forever!
Now, I don't drink coffee. I drink only milk for my breakfast and afternoon snacks, but when the weekend comes, I crave a warm bowl of cappuccino.
I also love to use coffee in baking, especially with chocolate.

I recently went to a middle eastern market and found green beans - I went home and roasted them up myself. It's so satisfying, getting your coffee to just the right shade, and it's super easy!

I was an addict up until 2 months ago. I literally use to have the equivalent of 4 American cups a day--of Cuban espresso! Can you imagine what it was like! I'd even have a cup as late as 9 pm and then complain when 3 am rolled around and I was wide awake and hungry! My friend urged me to quit and so I did--overnight. (note I had *cups* and not *shots*).
I don't really miss it. Interestingly enough. However, I found good use for my Bustelo espresso two weeks ago when I made an espresso flan! OMG! It was to die for. I think it's my new favorite dessert.
So my way of making coffee is in a French press, found very commonly in Latin kitchens to make espresso every morning!
I won't give mine up, in case I have withdrawal--but it's securely stored for now...
Check out my coffee flan recipe if you like, try it and thoroughly enjoy it! http://www.flanboyanteats.com/cooking_recipes/a-midnight-snack-better-than-se/
