Hot Weather Treat: Frozen Grapes

2009-08-11-FrozenGrapes.jpgWhether you're normally a fan of grapes or not, you have got to try them frozen! The grapes become like mini-popsicles that we can eat by the handful. They're crunchy, a little sweet, and incredibly addictive. Even better, we don't have to wait until dessert to justify eating them!

All we do to get the grapes ready to freeze is wash them and let them air dry. Then we pull them off the stems and spread them out on a plate or sheet pan to freeze. Give them a few hours in the freezer, and they're ready to eat! We like to divvy them up and store them in 1-cup portions for easy snacking.

For a boozy twist and a great dinner party appetizer, try soaking the grapes in white wine before freezing them! Cut a sliver off the top of the grape to expose the flesh and to help it absorb the wine, then soak them for an hour or so before freezing.

Have you ever had frozen grapes?

My boyfriend got the flu recently and his throat kept hurting. Frozen grapes were the perfect solution to soothe his throat. He loved them so much, there's still grapes in the freezer even though it's been weeks since he's gotten better.

These are awesome. I loved them even as a child, when I learned that they made great ballistic weapons against siblings. But they do taste good.

Oh, what a fun idea! I bet this idea would also work really well with currants or gooseberries or maybe even cherry tomatoes!

It's grape season right now...and it would be a good time to stock up. How long will they keep in the freezer? If, say, sometime in January I wanted to make grape jelly could I use them for that?

Sounds like they might be a nice replacement for ice cubes in a drink, maybe?
