My favorite article this week was the "how to choose the fastest checkout line." The math was good, but it assumes that all checkers work at the same speed, which is false. My dad always says he likes to go to the high school aged/college aged girls, and I would agree with one exception. Now this is going to sound racist, but hear me out here - in my history of checkout lines, the young black male cashier has tended to be faster than any other cashier.

One of my friends who does outreach in Baltimore says that so many youths turn to crime because they're taught at a young age that they need to make money to be somebody. On the other end of the spectrum, when you have a young black male working the cashier, he may be the man of the house, and he takes pride in his work like one. That part is conjecture, but my experiences with cashiers in the city are truth.
