We're guessing that a lot of mothers across the country were served breakfast in bed on Sunday. Something about waking up to a tray of eggs, coffee, perhaps a flower in a bud vase is considered the ultimate in pampering.
However, we're not big fans of eating in bed. It's often awkward, cumbersome, and messy, trying to navigate around a wobbly tray.

I'd never ask for it, but when my kids bring it in, it's so cute that I don't resist.

Breakfast in bed is like sex on the beach--great image, not so hot reality.

Given that any breakfast I'm most likely to enjoy involves lots and lots of syrup, I'll eat at the table, please. Coffee and a magazine in bed, however, was a great way to start my Mother's Day.

when i was 8 i made my mom breakfast in bed for mother's day. it consisted of a bowl of granola and a couple of iced cookies. the best part was the instant coffee i made. i was too young to actually make coffee or boil water, so i used warm tap water. i also put in two heaping tablespoons of instant coffee. my mom loves coffee and i was so proud of myself for making it that i kept urging her to drink more of it. this is, of course, after i had woken her up at 8am. when i got older she admitted that it was the strongest 'coffee' she had ever had.

Leftover apple pie makes for a great breakfast in bed.
