At the center of the Passover table sits the Seder plate, full of the symbolic foods, and foods for thought, that are used during the ritual. We've been to several Seders where there was only a paper plate, colored by the hosts' children. But it's always so nice when someone has a fancy Seder plate, either handed-down from their grandmother, or carefully chosen to represent their own taste.
We've been keeping an eye out for particularly beautiful or inspirational Seder plates, and we've rounded up a few to show you.
& bull; 'Flower Garden' Seder plate. $350.
True, this is a bit pricey, but it was just so pretty we had to include it We can just see it as the centerpiece of a gorgeous spring Passover table.
• Atom Serving Tray and Mini Bowls. $7 (Platter + 6 bowls)
At the other end of the price spectrum is this set from CB2. It's not actually intended to be a Seder plate, but we think it would do quite nicely. And since it's on sale, the price can't be beat.
• Gold Rimmed Seder Plate $36.
Also quite affordable is this old-fashioned looking porcelain plate with Stars of David and blue and white details.
Buying heirloom dishes strikes us as a time to support artists, and we found dozens of handmade examples at Artistic Judaic Promotions.
• Ceramic Seder plate by Paul Barchilon $250.
This plate is based on medieval Spanish illuminated manuscripts, and an ancient Jewish art form called micography.
• Blue Glass Seder Plate $296.
The artist Ety makes this glass example with painted and gilded details.
But perhaps you're looking for something a bit more modern?
• Nambé Seder Plate $200.
Raised Hebrew letters represent each of the six foods on this metal Seder plate.

Years ago, I gave my parents a Gary Rosenthal seder plate as a gift. It has a disk of blue glass in the center, surrounded by satellites of triangular enameled-copper cups. The only drawback was that we had to line the cups with tiny glass bowls because we weren't sure if the cups were food-safe. That design isn't available anymore, but his current collection has some other modern and interesting styles with the same glass and copper shapes.

I love the Rosenthal pices, but teh price can be prohibitive. In the meantime, I went to CB2 to take a closer look at the Atom serving tray, and guess what! It's on sale. Yup. $3.95 for the serving plate and 50 cents for the bowls. While I don't celebrate Passover, it may be a nice gift to offer my friends who do.
