We're making BBQ pork in the slow cooker so it's ready to eat when we return from the Calistoga parade. Cole slaw has already been made, and the buns are awaiting filling.

Easy peasy.

Peach pie! I've never made it, but peaches are in season and we're going to some friends' place and I thought I"d bring it along.

Those little organic chickens from Trader Joes, halved and BBQed. Frijoles, arroz, tortillas, aguacates. yummy fresh salsa from the garden's first tomatoes. Elotes!! yum.
I'll probably make some sort of cobbler or buckle from all the fresh stone fruits at the markets. yeah for food!

We're kicking off tonight with grilled pizzas.

Tomorrow we're planning a grilled boneless leg of lamb which we'll slice up thin and wrap in pitas with yogurt sauce, a big chopped veggie salad, and sliced heirloom tomatoes with dill and feta.

We're having a potluck. My dish is the absolutely delish Martha Stewart recipe for mac and cheese. Gruyere and white cheddar makes it expensive but it's totally worth it. I use sourdough bread to make the breadcrumbs out of and man do I get the compliments when I make it.

Red, White and Blue Jell-o shots. Yum! Blue raspberry on the bottom, some cool-whip followed by Red raspberry for the top layer. I love mixing the Jell-o with Malibu Rum for delicious slurping. I put them into mini plastic shot glasses so you can see the colors.

Well, as I'm in England in the pouring rain, I shall be going to the office and coming home again. So, if any of you ham shanks out there are just having a quiet day, maybe you can pour yourselves a nice cup of tea with a digestive about 4 o'clock (or throw it in the river the choice is yours) and contemplate your independence. little green: sounds like heaven!

We're doing nothing. Absolutely nothing. Party poopers, I know. But maybe I'll get inspired tomorrow and cook something fun.

I just finished making potato salad and a batch of pan-fried chicken, a la my grandmother and mother. These are probably the only two dishes I learned how to make from observing them cooking. The potato salad in particular is in my blood! We always had them on 4th of July, along with corn on the cob and watermelon, as they were coming from the garden about this time (this is in the Appalachian south).

I'm taking them over to the house of my best friend who had minor surgery that has not affected her appetite, just her ability to get around for a few days. You know I love you if I make you fried chicken. :)

Great. It's dark and hot outside with thundershowers on the way. Oh well, it'll still be a decent holiday.

i see my friends and family a lot, so i'm taking the day off for myself. i might watch fireworks if i can see them from my balcony, but today's plan is to catch up on household projects, plan a trip to spain with my mom, and make some delicious pasta primavera.

of course, i am drinking iced tea right now. :)

We just had a nice barbeque with several friends (about twelve of us). We had kilbasa (is that how you spell it?), two kinds of macaroni salad, hamburgers, hot dogs, and the SWEETEST corn I've ever had. God it was good! We also had birthday cake (my friend's birthday was yesterday) made by me that was DELICIOUS, if I do say so myself :)
