Actually, the mad cow and listeria situation -- both caught by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency -- are good news recalls, showing that the system works. And in these cases, no one got sick (fingers crossed no one gets listeria).
Err, doesn't it make anyone nervous that no cows with mad cow are ever identified in the U.S.? I've checked into it, and Canada has a much more extensive and rigorous testing policy....

well, it doesn't really make me nervous cause i live in canada:)...from what i have read you're right about our testing procedures. but i still order my meat from a local farm that i've researched, mostly for health & ethical reasons.

US testing is pathetic. We wouldn't have caught them. In fact, some producers tried to have tighter controls (such as testing every cow) and the USDA wouldn't let them!

update on the listeriosis: sadly, there is 1 death, with 16 documented cases, 16 more under investigation.
